  • 2 23s Water for cooking

Utensils

  • Sieve or Chinoise
  • Sauce Pan

Directions

With just a pan and sieve, you can make good boiled rice consistently.

Wash the rice to get some of the loose starch off.  Soak the rice in water for up to an hour.  Drain the rice in the sieve for about 10 minutes.

Put the rice and the fresh water into the sauce pan and bring to a boil.  Stir and bring the heat down to medium and cook for about 5 minutes.  Check  and stir the rice.  It may need about another 5 minutes.  Good rice is cooked when it is soft but has a good ‘tooth’ when you bite into it- not crunchy, but with a solid core.
