Ingredients

  • about one slice per person
  • 1/2 23 Oil canola, olive, butter(melted), bacon fat(melted)
  • Salt
  • Pepper, Ground

Utensils

  • Cookie Sheet or 1/2 Sheet Pan
  • Silpat/Silicone cooking sheet or Foil
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • medium Bowl

Directions

Temp: Pre-warmed – 350 if convection oven, 375 if standard

Technique: Slice the bread into cubes about 1/2 inch to a side or less.  Place into bowl and add the oil, tossing to coat the bread.  Add Salt and Pepper and toss again to coat.  Put foil or cooking sheet in sheet pan.  Place the oiled bread in a layer on the pan.  When the oven is heated, put into the oven in the middle/middle for best air flow.  At about 10 minutes check the oven and stir the croutons.  If they are as dark as you like, pull them.  If not , let them sit in the oven for another 5 minutes and pull.

Any croutons not used for the meal can be stored in a container for later.  Please put a piece of paper towel in the container to help soak up any extra moisture.
